New Lit&Lat writing app

Seeing this, I thought I’d give the Bartleby ePub formatter a go to see if it had got anywhere…

In spite of the fact that the product page goes on about how awful Scrivener’s compiler is and that the answer is to compile to Markdown and open that in Bartleby, I couldn’t get it to import a Scrivener compiled .md at all, and really couldn’t be bothered to open it in BBEdit or TextEdit to cut and paste into Bartleby.

I’d rather spend the time sorting out the Scrivener compile, 'cos once you’ve done that and saved it, you don’t have to do it again.

Still, sorry for the off-topicking; we’ll just have to wait and see what the new app brings on that front!

My apologies, as I could have saved you the trouble and wasted time, but I thought it would be too off-topic. I also tried the formatting app; I tried to import the markdown file several times. Never worked; Bartleby couldn’t see it (greyed out.) Just regular markdown, then the option MultiMarkdown---->Latex, then MultiMarkdown---->OpenOffice. I gave up. I tried both the direct download and the Mac App store version. Neither worked. The Mac App store version hasn’t been updated in 11 months.

I mentioned all this way back in that forum post where he introduced it, cos it didn’t work then, either. He suggested to email him or report it in his forum. I never bothered, his unprofessional trashing of Scrivener’s Compile feature was a turn off, and I felt he didn’t deserve the courtesy.

While the new writing app looks promising, its lack of Markdown support is a major drawback; what sets it apart from Ulysses?

Well, I guess this:

:face_with_peeking_eye:

Also: No subscription. And a Windows version.

How does it sync data on Windows if it intends to use iCloud instead of Dropbox?

Maybe we’ll have the option to choose between iCloud and Dropbox.

Pretty please @kb?

So many put so much hope in this new app. It should have been here long ago. But it isn’t. The longer it takes, the more hope grows. Will the new app be revolutionary, or just TextEdit with Binder? Everyone interprets what they want. Nobody knows. What is certain is that the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment. Probably.

The legendary @vic-k would have wanted to make sure the new app had a Cheesy Wotsits dispenser.

What are these cheesy things you mentioned?

Maybe using iCloud for Windows?

Which wouldn’t be too bad of an idea.

Seriously? Then Windows users also need an Apple ID to use iCloud. Sounds like a great solution.

I haven’t read any rep from L&L state that the new app will only use iCloud.

Have you?

Then don’t use iCloud. What’s the problem here, exactly? I just pointed out that iCloud is also available for Windows. (As in: That’s not a show-stopper if it were the only option. But I don’t know if that’s the case.)

Right next to the Cutty Sark nozzle. Rest well, Vic-K.

Just to reiterate before the thread gets too out of hand: we have never said that iCloud would be the only sync option in the new app.

iCloud for Windows - EASY!

Plus this!

Truly. We need a few more welders in this forum.

This conversation is a bit like kids in a candy store, all bright colours, sticky fingers, and overwhelming choices. But I believe there might be potential for the new writing app if it can export content in the Scrivener project format. I might consider gaining it solely for this feature. Otherwise, the market will be highly competitive, especially on the Mac platform. While Windows has fewer writing apps, like Word and OneNote, this could create an opportunity for synergy within the Scrivener product line if the new app is good on both operating systems. Anyway, it’s a bold decision to launch a competing product against popular and highly regarded products such as Ulysses, which users consider a masterpiece.
