Hi, I started off tracking my progress in Excel, but have now moved it to Outliner. I can get it pretty much there, but would like a Total Progress Percentage column if possible please? This would be useful as I have created folders and sub-folders to mimic the Save The Cat format, and would like to know where I still need to spend my efforts. I have entered targets based on the Beat Sheet Calculator.
One way to do it would be to split the editor, set the new editor to display your folders as scrivenings.
So, when you’ll click a folder in the outliner, that second editor will load the folder’s content, and report a wordcount at the bottom.
(You need to set the outliner’s selection to reflect in the other editor. At the bottom left.)

. . . . . . .
I don’t think there is a way to get a progress bar.
[EDIT] Actually, there is a way. It involves the compiler’s settings, and some other options. But it could easily prove to be more trouble than gain… (And it still will involve clicking around after the fact.)
Say so if you need the details.
OK, thanks for that. I think I’ll just make do with what’s there for now.
You could create either a collection like act 1 . Pinch point 1, 2 etc. then open collection in scrivenings view and get word total. Since static collection can add scenes and rerun total to see where in projected novel total to whatever points you want totals for.
The other is to assign keywords like act 1, pinch point 1 for scenes between act 1 and pinch point 1, etc. you can run a dynamic collection for one or multiple keywords.
You can show a progress bar in the Outliner. See the View → Outliner Options menu.
Agree but you do not get a number based on progress and cannot apply a target to display in the Outliner to the Manuscript unless you create a file underneath the manuscript and set a target there for the novel, but again is a guesstimate and can not tell if at 75%, or % for pinch points. The collection method is awkard too, but could get hard numbers if set up right.
I’ll be damned. Don’t know how I could have missed that. Is it new or fairly recent?
If someone sees my head lying around somewhere, picking dust in a corner, please be so kind as to kick it back my way. Thank you.
I’m pretty sure it’s been around as long as the Editor progress bar. They use the same data.
Sorry about your head.
