I hadn’t thought of keeping character expectations low. Good idea @thegirlclaudia - mine are disappointing me so I think shifting my expectation would be good.
I like seeing what you’re writing - thank you for sharing. I’ll watch with interest to see what happens to them
PS I do love a bit of Eliza and Prof Higgins.
The original idea for the doc for the past ten years was that he was married and childless, but I couldn’t answer “well, what would motivate him to take up Kennette unless he is unfaithful?” The process of becoming an adulterer wasn’t something I could identify with. So this time I made him cold, sarcastic, single for some reason to be explored, and have an only son from whom knowledge about his mother was withheld. That really got my creative juices flowing. Enough unanswered questions in one sitting to motivate me to pants.
Great! At present I have scheduled Zoom meets for 7-8 November. Late night write-ins. It would be 11pm 6-7/11 to 1am 7-8/11 (UK time). I’ll post the link here on 6 November early AM, and you all can drop in anytime.
Ahhh the joys of tying to stay tidy. I did a spring/winter clean of files on onedrive. I didn’t realise I had moved some of my scrivener files… until I went to open them. That will teach me for procrastinating tidying!
Need to find safer procrastination methods @Susan67. I find drinking coffee and looking up random things works well. Did you manage to salvage the files?
Thanks @thegirlclaudia . Not sure if I’ll make them but will certainly try if not too tired by then.
@CallyRose I managed to find some in my recycle bin (gasp). I think I maybe should’ve left them in there as not that happy with them. However, while procrastinating I found an old started piece of writing in the loft going back to 1996! Seriously thinking of starting over with it.
Oh wow! Brilliant. I feel quite excited for you @Susan67 . Did you get that odd sensation of not remembering a word you’d written - like it was completely the first time you’d seen it?
I’m not reading anything I’m writing at the moment. It’s all just free flow and the majority will be binned. But it is helping to get some flesh on the bones. And I’ve surprised myself that if I don’t worry too much, the words will come
This is the link to our write-ins 11:30pm 6-7/11 to 1:30am 7-8/11 (UK time):

Don’t be surprised if it shows that it’s a webinar. I purposely titled it that way
Sorry, @thegirlclaudia . I can’t make the Zoom. Thank you for arranging. I hope it’s a productive night.
That’s all right. What time could you make it in the following weeks?
@thegirlclaudia , a 9 pm (UK) is probably my latest start time. Nov is very full on with work and family. Worse month for me for NaNo. It’s one of the reasons I’ve not done it before
I’ll plan accordingly and let you all know
hey y’all! looking forward to the zoom meeting! it’s hella late where I’m at, but my insomnia will be my friend this month!
Ugh. Our internet where we are staying is not working, and I can’t do the zoom meeting on my phone’s internet, because apparently in the mountains the signal comes and goes. I will try for the next one.
I’m sorry to learn about your Internet troubles. I’ll post a new write-in link later this week.
In the meantime, if anyone wants to get used to the format of the write-in, it’s repeating “15 minutes of focused writing + 5 minutes to chill out” in a cycle. Even in the absence of fellow writers, this write/rest cycle gets creative juices flowing.
I scheduled a new write-in! It’s a YouTube livestream that formally starts 13/11 @ 5am UK time, and will go on for as long as I keep it online: NaNo2021 Write-In - YouTube
Hopefully this is doable on a low bandwidth. Join in on the chat!
How’s everyone doing?
Hi everyone … well… progress has been rubbish but I think I am better than last week. Managed to tap into the old piece of writing many years ago and have managed to pinch some of it.
It is still a bit slow but I feel a bit more comfortable.
How is everyone else getting on?
Better than last week and comfortable is a pretty good achievement. Well done @Susan67 . I’m doing a little cheerleader dance.
I’m doing better than I thought I would. Had a couple of really down days. Had to remind myself not to worry about what I was writing - that it can be fixed at some point in the future. Need to keep reminding myself because when I start thinking I stall!!!
