Hey! I’m not seeing my chapter in the finished stories. I sent it out about an hour before the deadline. Did it not arrive? I didn’t get any bounced notifications or anything. I’m kind of bummed since I worked on it for hours today. I even had a power outage and was afraid I wouldn’t be able to send it, but I was excited when the power came back on just in time.

I know there’s nothing that can be done about it now, but I’m sad it didn’t make it in.

I’ve done a thorough search – I can’t find any submissions from you tanyareed. I’ve got your email from this morning but the last thing I received from you prior to that was your April Apocolypse Edition chapter (including in my junk mail as I check that every 30mins during the day). I"m really sorry about that! I wonder what happened?!

tanyareed - if you email me a copy of your completed chapter I will compile a version for you later in the week and email it across. In the meantime, I can confirm that you would have been Chapter 17 so you can check out those in the published books to see how others did with the same brief. No tweaking and editing before you send it, though!!!

That is so bizarre! I sent two emails to you. One verifying that I got your email on the mistake in my original brief and one with my chapter in it. It sounds like some crazy glitch or something from either my computer or my ISP.

I will definitely send along my chapter! Thanks for going to the trouble to do that for me. I’ve been having the week from hell, so I’m not surprised that something like this happened.

Aw, mine was chapter 17. It fun to write, but reading through it I can only apologise for my looooonnnngggg sentences. I also seem to be the only person who gave Clinton Red robes (and I promise I did google 'what colour robes… ’ ) Weirdly, the chapter 18s I’ve read so far don’t seem to have known that anything happened to Jean. I’d love to read your version of 17, Tanya.

I’m very happy to announce that the 2020 NiaD award badges have now been uploaded! Sorry about the delay this year – we had some technical issues that meant things took a little longer than usual. We’re investigating a new badge hosting approach that would solve this problem in the future (and hopefully make future years’ badges instantly available), but we’ve decided to park that to 2021 to give us time to get it working and delay you no further!

A number of forum badge files have been uploaded to pigfender.com/NiaD_Badge/
You’ll need to add the filename to the end of that address to see the image.

The files have been named according to the number of NiaDs you’ve taken part in. So if you took part in NiaDs 1, 2, 3, and 4 then the file name is 1-2-3-4.png (with a full path of pigfender.com/NiaD_Badge/1-2-3-4.png)

Similarly, if you took part in NiaDs 2 and 3, the file name would be 2-3.png

I’ve not made badges for every possible combination, only for the sequences that people have actually taken part in. If you think I’ve gotten this wrong, let me know.

To save you a few precious keystrokes, you can just paste the following text into your forum signature, adjusting, of course, the “1-2-3-4.png” part to get the correct PNG file representing the years you’ve taken part:

Then, when I received it I couldn’t sleep for wondering . . . and pondering how to write about an intern researching a hit and run accident without mentioning or disclosing any details!

These are the wildest sort of challenges in the NIAD! I once had a case where a woman had called in saying she had crucial info on a case and my scene was supposed to be her being interviewed by the police, but I had no info about the substance of what she had to report! OMG that had me running and jumping through some hoops!

OMG indeed! I’d love to read your chapter for that one, GR.

Unless you’ve actually participated in NiaD it’s impossible to imagine the level of stress and confusion when the email arrives after midnight.

Yup, it’s a tough day!! Hopefully the kind of challenge we find fun, though!
But yeah, I hear you. The before/after NiaD photos of my wrinkles and hair line aren’t pretty. Although that could also be because it’s been ten years.

I think this year’s story was the toughest on participants yet! The next one’ll be easier. Maybe. Who knows?!
