No comments or annotations when switching to a new computer

Hello –

I have been a long time user of scrivener for a 80k word manuscript project on my first computer.

However, I just switched to a new computer. I want to pick up where I left off wth my Scrivener manuscript on this second computer. I saved my project from my first computer (via Save As), uploaded the folder to google drive, downloaded the folder on my second computer, unzipped it, and opened the file on the second computer.

However, when I opened it on my second computer, all the comments were missing. The parts of the text that were previously highlighted are hyperlinked (blue text and underlined), but there are no comments.

The only way I could get the comments to save was via exporting as a word doc and making sure “remove comments” box was not checked.

Can you please help me with this? The comments are very important for me as they contain critical notes. Thanks.

This is a known issue with Google Drive. Probably what happened is that it “helpfully” renamed the files containing your comments to .xml files. (They should actually be .comments files.)

Go back to the first computer and make a ZIP backup from Scrivener using the File → Backup → Backup To command. Transfer that over, unzip, and you should be fine.

Then go read our Google Drive advisory, here:
