No Tools menu in latest version and Licence not requested

Can’t find the Tools menu in freshly re-installed version 3.1.6. I downloaded a new version installer, and it appears I have a full version not a trial version but I have not reinstalled my license key. Is that typical?

Hi.
I believe so.
First, there is no “Tools” menu. (So, the fact that you can’t find it makes sense. )
And second, unless it changed somewhat recently, if I’m not mistaken once you have the key from an ealier installation, Scrivener just see’s it as if you didn’t actually reinstall. It is still in the appdata folder (or somewhere the likes) where Scrivener looks for it.

So, basically I would say : if it works, you’re good to go.

If otherwise there is still something specific bothering you, if it involves your license you should contact support via Literature and Latte’s website. They don’t dicuss licenses on the forum for technical/safety reasons.

Uninstalling and reinstalling does not wipe your activation. This way you can easily do so to troubleshoot problems with the installation or whatever. If it is already unlocked, as Vincent says, you have nothing to worry about. Carry on.

As for a “Tools” menu, you are thinking of the old version. It had a few scattered things that have been moved elsewhere in version 3. Options is now in the File menu, Spelling and Writing Tools in the Edit menu, Scratch Pad in Window menu, and toolbar customisation in View menu.

But if you just reinstalled and ended up with v3 instead of v1, you’re probably in a for a few more surprises than just that menu! You might want to check out the upgrade guide. Appendix E, in the user manual PDF, is also a good one to go through.
