Please recommend some good speech-to-text options which don’t use AI? I have come across quite a few accounts of how people have drafted several hundred thousands of words using dictation instead of typing and am quite drawn to the idea. I found something really cheap only to figure out it used AI and stopped after the free trial, sadly. How do literary agents treat ai enabled speech-to-text for drafting?
Hi
Of course, I had to take note of the fact that you are a Mac user only after fetching my link. Oh well…
. . . . . . . . . . .
Some people use GoogleDocs and then copy/paste.
..And of course, there is always the option of the one built-in your OS, if one. This should allow you to STT directly in your project.
(I am a Windows user, can’t tell if your OS’s would be AI or not.)
If you’re on a Mac, the built-in dictation is very useable, even with my Brit/Kiwi/Aus accent. It’s not AI.
Not sure how AI would change anything, but as it’s not generative, just translating your words to text there should be no issues.
On Windows 11 there is also a built in Voice Access. You have to set it up through the Accessibility menu and it downloads an additional file.
I’ve just run a quick test and it does work in Scrivener Win (at least in a Win VM on a Mac
)
