How can I make the text I’m composing in editor wrap to the width of the text editor window? I can re-size the editor window fine, and I can also set the page width slider in full-screen view, but the column of text I’m editing stays the same width regardless. No combination of changes to preferences seems to affect this.
Also, all changes I make to preferences seems to affect only NEW docs, not the one I’m working on. Is this correct? Or am I missing something?
For your first question, try showing the ruler (cmd-R). I bet the text has a right indent set - a lot of imported Word documents get this, for instance, I’ve found. Just look for the downward-pointing triangle at the right of the ruler; if it’s in line with the right margin of the text, you know that’s it - just drag the triangle way off to the right to make it wrap to the width of the editor.
As for your second question - yes, that’s right, the preferences (text format) affect new documents only. I’ve renamed the preference “Default Format for New Documents” or some such for the next update, to make this less confusing. It shouldn’t affect existing documents because, obviously, you could destroy a lot of formatting such as block quotes etc accidentally if it did. If you want to change existing documents to the format in the preferences, just select them in the binder then go to Documents > Convert > Formatting > to Default Text Style. See the FAQ for more info.
