Hi there. Talk to me like I’m 4 because I’m in over my head here. I back up my projects on Egnyte and we have a setting where things in the trash folder are purged after 30 days. I got a notification that nearly 50 rtf files all from one scrivener project were set to be purged. If this is normal, I thank you and will never darken your forum again, but is this normal? Or will I wake up one morning and my WIP will have been purged? Thanks for your help.
I think that’s a question for Egnyte support, not us. Scrivener will not delete anything from a project unless you tell it to.
Scrivener stores your work in RTF format. So yes, purging 50 RTF files from your project could have catastrophic consequences.
On the other hand, if Egnyte is just purging an out-of-date backup on a regular schedule, not changing the current project, that’s potentially fine.
In any case, this is not something Scrivener is doing, or is even capable of doing.
@kewms Thanks very much. I cannot find that many items in my trash folder on Scrivener, so I’m left to assume that these are out of date backups. Thanks for your response.
I’d still advise caution. We’ve had reports of third-party cleanup utilities deciding that parts of a project are “old” or “duplicates” even though they’re not in the project trash.
