Novel-in-a-Day XI - the undecaNiaD

I’m sure he will. All 352 vague words of crap. He’ll be giddy. LMAO
I’m hoping I can come up with some more filler tomorrow morning.
I have no idea if the guys are on base in my scene. Or if there is a base for them to be on.
My list of info says “Morgan” is on the base. So are the guys there too? In a barracks? Or something else? Or are they in tents somewhere off base? Playing their playstation with sand all around. And camel spiders.

@pigfender said: A semi-permanent camp near Kanabad. I’ve not clarified structures, so use which ever works for your chapter is fine.

Excellent! Thank you. That helps some.
Did he say that privately to you? Or is that somewhere in this page?

Edit: :woman_facepalming: Or in the brief?

I emailed him with the same question!

Cool. Thank you.

if you guys have ever seen “Black Hawk Down” or “American Sniper” that’s what I imagine the base to be like…Lots of plywood and pre-fab and loudness from helos and the like.
And HOT…Damn Hot…

I’m seeing some of that and some old stone/clay buildings. Tent City/Quonset huts. A sniper/spotter/overwatch on the highest rooftop with camo netting overhead / possibly a roof. Bright, sunny and hot.

September Weather in Afghanistan. Daily high temperatures decrease by 9°F, from 88°F to 80°F, rarely falling below 73°F or exceeding 93°F. Daily low temperatures decrease by 9°F, from 61°F to 52°F, rarely falling below 46°F or exceeding 66°F.

September, the first month of the autumn, in Tehran, is still a warm month, with temperature in the range of an average low of 18.6°C (65.5°F) and an average high of 27.8°C (82°F)**.

I’ve just learned that “overwatch” isn’t just a video game! This “internet search engine” thing is actually kind of useful. Maybe it’s not just a fad after all.

Wait. There are camel spiders? Never mind, don’t tell me.

And they like latrines/portapotties.

Every year, part of the fun (for me, probably less so for Rog) is complaining about a genre I know nothing about. But this year! I’ll be lucky to assimilate 5% of the background material. I may have to bring in the singing unicorns.

Does the Base have a name/callsign?

Ran right out and enlisted so I would have the bona fides for my chapter. Now I am writing what I know!

Drop and give me twenty, maggot!!!

I think I have my chapter idea solid. Problem is my data source is currently racked. Guess I’ll get some rack time and wait his debrief.

I assume he isn’t boxer type. We raised him in briefs.

I didn’t get any info in my pkt about the prez or CIA director. Do I just wing it?

Ha! I have faith!

If in doubt, I always ask myself if my chapter is POOEE yet.

Ie, do I clearly know…

Who my [P]rotagonist is
What their [O]bjective is
What the [O]bstacle to getting that
Why / how does the situation [E]scalate, and
Do I have a cool [E]nding

The fun in a chapter usually comes from Obstacle and Escalation. Why is what your character is trying to do difficult. What goes wrong. What does their objective cost them. Your briefing pack will likely only really contain the protagonist, objective and a sometime a bit of the ending. The fun bits are completely up to you!

@scrapsandsass Yes - if you don’t have a character sheet then all the details of that human are up to you!

Mrs Pigfender would like MSG Cole to get his shirt off a lot when this gets turned into a movie. I’ve said I wouldn’t put that in the briefing packs but everyone would instinctively know that fit dudes take their tops off a lot.
