Old Project Missing Content but not folders

Hi there!

I have a project I stopped working on back in 2020. I kept the scrivx file backed up through email(I know, terrible). I’ve never had an issue opening the file in Scrivener before.

I’ve restarted my project completely and all is well there. I did want to snag my prologue from my previous project. I have a new computer so I grabbed the backup from my email.

Every single scene is there on the left panel, the folders, the binder, and the flash cards. All of the text in the actual chapters are missing though. I’m not sure if I can recover these or how to? I did not use backups on my last laptop or did I ever use one drive. I also have a few .epub drafts, but I’m not sure if I can re-populate in scrivener using those. I’ve attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Anyone know if this is fixable? It was about 54,000 words and a good source of world building to look back on.

Thank you in advance all!

Quick update. I was able to use an ebook reader to copy and paste it into my new file - So it’s not as urgent, but I’d definitely like to know if it’s fixable for the future.

My current project is set to back up this time.

The scrivx file is just the master index file used to build the Binder, not a complete backup. You need the entire .scriv folder. The fastest way to get it is to use the File → Backup → Backup To command, and check the box to create a ZIP backup. You can then transfer the resulting ZIP file by any convenient method, including email.

Thank you very much. I guess it’s lost then since I do not have access to that original file. Thank you for letting me know!
