Older versions and retrieving old manuscripts

I’m an old scrivener user coming back to a project. My version is Scrivener 1.9.9. I would have to get a new license if I wanted to continue the project, and I don’t even know if the project is retrievable.

Is it worth it to try to get it back, or would I be better off starting over?

This is off course your choice, but both options are possible:

  • Reinstall the 1.9 version are reload your project or
  • Install the 3.1.5.1 version and open you project to convert it to the new format.

The first option should feel comfortable and well-known to you,
the second option allows you to enjoy the new functions of the up-to-date software.

The new version will need a new license, the older version doesn’t when you still have the serial number.

Hope this helps

I’m trying as well to get back my manuscript (started in 2017) but all my folders and files were suddenly empty on that black morning of 2022. Blank pages. No words. Titles & chapters but no text in it anymore. My almost finished novel vanished…
I went through all kinds of despair before asking for help … i really can’t stand the loss…
Any idea ?

Possibly saved only the scrvx file, and not the entire Project folder. Can you find backups?

Did you save your work to a cloud service? If so, track it down there and set your project to save offline and not online only.
