One chapter gets cut-off in complilation

Hello. I have seen some other posts about this happening but haven’t found a solution that also worked for me. One of my chapters gets cut-off. I noticed it seems to happen right at a point when a paragraph would break across to a new page. In the format I’m using to compile, I have tried editing the Text Layout options and making sure “Avoid widows and orphans” is unchecked but the result doesn’t change. It was already unchecked so I even tried checking it, compiling, and then unchecking it and compiling again. It had the same issue both times.

Please let me know what I should try next to get it to work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What output format are you compiling to, and do you see the same behavior in all formats?

Paperback copy at the moment but I’ve tried a bunch and the same issue happens with that one particular chapter. I’ve tried cutting the part that gets cut out from the chapter…recompiling…and then pasting it back in…sometimes a bit more gets in and other times no change.

Try two things in the problem section:

  • View → Text Editing → Show Invisibles, which will show any tables or other “white space” characters.
  • Edit → Text Tidying → Zap Gremlins, which will get rid of a variety of unprintable characters.

Nailed it. The first one showed that the end of the chapter was putting all the paragraphs in their own tables. I’m not sure how that would have happened. I tried cutting the text out and pasting it back outside the table but the tables kept creating. Then I figured out I could control click and under the Table context menu I could “Remove table” and that did the trick. I repeated it for each of the final paragraphs, recompiled, and everything showed up ok. Not sure how it could have happened but glad it’s resolved.

Thanks for your help.

Was the problem content copied from the web? Tables are a very common webpage design tool.

Glad to hear you’ve figured it out.

It was not copied from the web - just typed right in.
