I’ve been working diligently on my project and just noticed that it is being saved to OneDrive. I previously had OneDrive disabled because it was causing version control issues. I had to reactivate it for some reason and now my latest work is on OneDrive despite my taking no action and the .scriv file is old. Can I just rant about the audacity of OneDrive commandeering my project? Now I’m going to look at version control topics here. I hate that it’s taking time away from my writing.
I sure won’t be the one to try and stop you.
My love for OneDrive is of a negative value.
Don’t take my word for it, but I am tempted to say that for as long as OneDrive hasn’t actually fetched/removed your files off of your local hard drive, you don’t really have to worry about versions conflicts and other potential issues. (Assuming that you haven’t actually used OneDrive to sync your projects accross devices.)
Just backup your project and then move it out of OneDrive’s reach asap.
(You sound like you really know what you are doing, but I am saying it for future other users, in case.)

I’m sure it’s the same on Win, on Mac OneDrive has an option (right click on file) ‘Always Keep on This Device’
Make sure that’s selected. It will still sync to OneDrive but there will always be local copy for you to open in Scrivener. The real problems start if you are opening anything that’s stored on the cloud.
