This option appears to have no effect on PDF output. I have a section in which one line appears on a page by itself. I believe this is called a “widow”. There are no page breaks manually inserted. And the output is exactlyi the same regardless whether this option is enabled or not. Isn’t it supposed to ensure that some number of lines are dragged onto the next page to avoid the “widow”.
I’m working around this using “keep with next” but surely this shouldn’t be necessary! What am I misunderstanding?
Widows and orphans are from a single, common paragraph. If your “widow” line is a new paragraph, then it is not a widow and yes, keep with next is the solution.
Be cautious with the “Keep with next” command, especially if your content (and therefore page flow) is still relatively fluid. Overusing the command can lead to anomalous breaks as Scrivener tries to “keep together” chunks of text that are simply too big.
