Organisation (and re-organisation) of Research folder

I currently have only the iOS version of Scrivener. I’m struggling to find a way to restructure the research folder within a project. For example, I might want to create subfolders, and then move existing files (like PDFs or JPEGs) from the research folder into the subfolders. It seems like basic functionality, but I can’t see how to accomplish this. I’m fairly new to iOS, but at least moderately tech savvy. I’ve searched the forum - I can see people have previously established that the files cannot easily be moved between projects, but I’m surprised they can’t be moved within the same project. If I’m missing something basic, please let me know.

If it is relevant, I’m currently trying to begin work on a series of essays. Ultimately - if all goes well - they should hold together as a larger work. It’s important to me that I have some level of flexibility with both the structure and the organisation of research material. I want to write mostly on my iPad. I have ADHD, and I find the smaller screen and the simpler interface less distracting than a laptop or desktop computer. I do realise that this is a compromise in terms of the functionality that will be available.

If all goes well, my plan is to export the files to my PC (Windows), and do any final editing there. At the current time, I’d be slightly reluctant to purchase the Windows version of Scrivener just so I can move a few files around.

It appears that on iOS, I cannot have two versions of Scrivener open at the same time (which might theoretically permit me to view the research material while writing). I’m not sure if this restriction will change with the planned update of iOS, which I believe will include Stage Manager.

Any thoughts and/or advice gratefully received.

Hi Cookie,

To move files around using iOS Scriv, navigate to the document you want to move in it’s containing folder, swipe left on the document, then choose Move.

On the iPad you can use a split screen to have the document you’re editing on one side and another document/research on the other. For instructions see the iOS Tutorial, section Draft > The Main Interface > The Editor > Referring to Research. This applies only to docs within the same project, but I hope it’s still useful to you.

Best,
Jim
