Page Break Mystery

I find I am uncertain of what a page break is. I have set some and when viewed with “show invisibles”, I see a line, but when I compile as PDF, there is no consistent effect. What I wish I could do is to make a page start on a new page, even if the previous page is short and leaves a lot of white at the bottom. Here is a schematic of two pages:

a
a

B
b
b
b
C
c
c

Notice that the first page contains file A, but does not have file B following. B starts on the second page.
Notice that the second page contains 2 Scrivener files, but does not begin a new page for file C.

I would like to be able to control where a new page is started in the PDF. Thanks for any clues.

To control page breaks in your output file, look at the Separators pane of the Compile Format Editor. Attempting to use page break characters will give inconsistent results.

Thanks kewms,

I have found and clicked on a Separators menu item in a Compile Format Designer and the separator icon looks like what I am trying to control (to cause a place in the manuscript to begin a new page).

However, I see no way to apply it to specific files in my manuscript.

Further, I am currently compiling as a PDF, and the result does have such separations in a few arbitrary places for no reason that I can find.

My problem remains that I can’t seem to find a way to control where these separations occur.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Separators are a property of Section Layouts, so create a Section Layout with the correct Separator Setting and apply that to the Section Type of the Scene that should contain the page breaks.

Thanks AntoniDol,

That worked.
