On compiling for MS Word, I find that in some chapters, the page numbering in the word doc restarts. I can’t find out why it does that in those particular chapters.
I have this issue when using a customized version of the paperback format, but not when using a customized version of the default format. It seems the problem started to occur after some tinkering with the (paperback) format.
Any idea what could cause this and how to solve it?

Word will/can (depends on what you tell Word about section breaks) restart page numbering on section breaks. Check for any section breaks in the Word document, and if there and not intended then go back to the Scrivener compile settings to see which setting said “make section breaks” or something like that.
Discussion here is that the DOCX output from Scrivener is not as good as compiling to RTF format which is also a Microsoft format and some say results in a better output when used in Word.

not sure how to avoid this in scrivener though. do you have any more specific indication as to where these section breaks might be defined? i’m really puzzled as some chapters seem to have a section break and others don’t, like I said. i only applied settings all across the chapters, so no idea what could cause this difference
Check the section types in the metadata panel of your project.
The chapters for which this occurs likely are assigned a different section type (leading to a different section layout) than the chapters that come out fine.
If there is nothing you wish different for those chapters formatting-wise, simply set them to the same section type as the chapters that number pages properly.
Else, see what section layout this leads to, and fix the separators in the compile format’s “Separators” panel.
