Paragraph Breaks

Does anyone know how I can get paragraph breaks between two paragraphs, please?

I don’t like using indented paragraphs, as having the breaks allows the text on the screen to be much less cramped and crowded.

You might need to further clarify what you are looking for, as I don’t understand how you are describing things. For there to exist two paragraphs, one would need a paragraph break between them, otherwise there would be one paragraph. But the simplest answer to your question as phrased: place the cursor at the point where one should become two paragraphs, and press the Enter key.

Perhaps you mean to refer to how they are formatted though, with vertical spacing as opposed to indents?

  • Remove indents with: Format ▸ Paragraph ▸ Tabs and Indents...
  • Adjust paragraph spacing with: Format ▸ Paragraph ▸ Line and Paragraph Spacing...

Next, you will want to make your preferences a default for all new text, and learn how to convert previously created text.

I have my default paragraph set to 12pt Courier with no first-line indent, and space-after set to 12pt, because that is how I like to see things in the Editor pane. Like you, I really want to see where those paragraph breaks are and not be crowded.

My standard compile format is set to convert that to some finishing font of my choosing with standard first-line indent and no space after.

I didn’t realise I had to click on this right at the very bottom!

Thanks for point it out to me.

Even though I’ve been using Scrivener since the first beta I’ve never dabbled on the export settings.

I’m thinking that I’m going to have to figure out how to deal with that now…
