I looked this up on Google and within the forums and ive seen some yes you can and no you cant. In an effort to not be crotchety, i will say that i did find within the formatting. THe “after paragraph” spacing setting. I increased it. Though i didnt under stand why it seems to have a number that looks like font size. (I expected line number) i.e skip two lines or three etc.
Either way i increased it to a number like 4 just to test the change out and see if i noticed a change.
I didnt notice any change. No Im wondering if there is a special carriage return for paragraphs or i hoped the software was intelligent enough to know or assume my carriage return on a sentence was a new paragraph. Am I doing something wrong or just adjusting the wrong setting. You tube shows a video for ebook paragraph spacing but im just using scrivener no ebook etc. thanks if you feel my pain or see clearly what I am doing wrong.
The Paragraph Before / After settings use points (pt), which is related to the size of the font. As a fairly normal font-size is 12pt, then when you set Paragraph After spacing to 4pt, you were effectively asking for a space with is only ⅓ of a line high, so it’s not surprising it was difficult to see.
If you want to a full ‘empty’ line for 12pt text, then use 12pt as the After value – obviously change the figure if you use a different font-size, or you want more or less than a full empty line.
Or you could do what I do, which is to split the font-size into two – so 6pt before and 6pt after. This gives you more flexibility so that, for example, you can have better control over the spacing before and after lists, or any other special style.

Hi.
You are looking at the right setting.
But 4 is too little. A value of your current font size will show as one blank line.
Ok thank you but i did 13 before and 13 after, just as a test and still im not getting any noticeable gap. Could there be something else that im not doing? Is it because im in composition mode. Still not getting the result I want.
Interesting development and I dont know if this is a bug. But when i backed out of composition mode. Where the binder shows up and just the text shows up on the right side and made the change from formatting >Paragraph, though the interface for changing before and after looked exactly the same, when I made the changes from there they actually took and i have what i wanted. But when i did it from inside composition mode they DID NOT take. That looks like a bug to me but it can be “its not a bug its a feature” kind of thing. I dont know. Im just putting it out there.
It’s not something I noticed, I’m afraid – it works in composition mode for me as well and I’ve tried to make it fail, but I couldn’t…
