Part Heading not being assigned properly to Heading 1 Style by Compiler

I have a Part Title which I wish to finish up in MS Word as Style Heading 1 and a Chapter Title which I wish to finish up in MS Word as Style Heading 2.

I enter Compile Format Designer and click on Part Title which is assigned to Part Heading. I click on Section Title in the bottom right window and select Heading 1 under the Formatting drop-down tag (this gives a tick against Heading 1).

I then click on Chapter Title which is assigned to Chapter Heading. I click on Section Title in the bottom right window and select Heading 2 under the Formatting drop-down tag (this gives a tick against Heading 2).

If I then click back on Part Title retains whatever formatting I gave it but under the Formatting drop-down tag it shows as “No Style” (i.e. it has lost its Heading 1 selection). If I then click back on Chapter Title the Formatting drop-down tag still says “Heading 2” as I required.

Why does Part Title not retain its Heading 1 drop-down tag?

In MS Word my Chapter Titles are appearing as Style Heading 2 but my Part Titles remain stubbornly Style Normal. Very frustrating!

Have you tried other styles, to diagnose if the problem is with the section layout, vs with the Heading 1 style ?

Else, off the top of my head, does that section layout’s title have a prefix ? Like an accidental space or… (It should still work, but…)

I just tried a bunch of things and I can’t reproduce.

Perhaps click the “+” with that section layout selected and see if perhaps it works any better with that new copy of it ?

OK. I tried “+” with the section layout “Part Title” which was misbehaving, but this made no difference. However, I then tried “+” with the section layout “Chapter Title” and then edited that to use Heading 1 and this appears to have got rid of the problem. (I then quickly deleted the old “Part Title” so it didn’t confuse me, but maybe that wasn’t a good idea, because I still can’t see any difference with the way it was set up, and maybe it would have been useful to you for diagnosis… Anyway, it’s gone now.)

Thank-you for the help, though it doesn’t improve my confidence in the Compiler (though I love the rest of Scrivener)!
