Hi,
Is there a way to place a PDF inside a Scrivener Document,
I want to reduce the number of Hyperlinks I need in my Scapple PDF Documents for faster editing.
I want to have a heading and some text above my PDF that are independent of the PDF
i.e. Layout like this:
(Heading) Title XYZ
Some centred Internal Links
(Main Body) - PDF Document
Kinde regards Jay
Well, dependant on what drives your workflow, Scrivener or Scapple, I might have a useful suggestion.
- Since Scrivener is meant for writing and has a dedicated Research folder, why not create/open a blank document in Research and populate it with links to Scapple diagrams in their native format. (You don’t need to convert them to PDFs, else it’s a matter of adjusting the diagram and saving PDFs every time, which to my mind is a time waster.)
- So, say your planning in Scapple resulted in ABC.scap and CDE.scap saved in Documents\Diagrams in Windows.
- In Scrivener | Research | blank document which you can name Scapple Diagrams, create a list, e.g. (Heading) Title ABC; next line CDE, and so on. You can even number or bullet the list if you want.
- Then highlight ABC and select Ctrl+Shift+L with the intention of creating an external link to ABC.scap (your Scapple diagram).
- From the popup, click the File radio button, then Browse, and File Manager pops up.
- Select the Documents folder in File Manager, then the Diagrams sub-folder and select ABC.scap and click Ok.
- In Scrivener ABC is now a hyperlink to ABC.scap, which upon clicking opens ABC.scap as a fully editable and saveable Scapple diagram.
- Do the same for the next diagram in your list, and so on.
- To make it even easier, in Scrivener, drag the Scapple Diagrams document in Research you created to Inspector → Project Bookmarks, where all your Scapple diagrams will be fully accessible from the active preview pane below the Bookmarks area.
- Alternatively, if your diagrams relate to only certain scenes or areas in your project, then for those areas, switch to Document Bookmarks and drag the Scapple Diagrams document in Research to relevant Bookmarks only.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which came first, the chicken or the egg, Scapple or Scrivener, because once your document with hyperlinks is in place in Scrivener, it’s a matter of adding, editing and deleting, dependant on your progress needs, and all achievable without leaving Scrivener.
