Hi Keith, this will be my last posting. I have kids who are really keen on writing and Scrivener and I have to block this site now that it has become a repository for porn. Sad. I really love this application and the extraordinary good will shown by most.
Lord Lightning, this is on my list of things to fix. These spammers are really annoying and I have a script that should hopefully fix it. It takes a little while, though, and I just have not had time so far. I will get it done before the end of the weekend and then hope for the best.
Right, I have hadded an anti-bot mod to the registration process. This makes it necessary for anyone who registers to answer a simple question, such as what is “2+2?” This should hopefully throw the bots. We will just have to see. If anybody knows of an e-mail activation mod for phpBB, let me know.
E-mail activation just means that when users register for a forum account, an e-mail gets sent to their e-mail account, and they cannot log in and post until they have clicked on a link in that e-mail to activate their forum account.
And in actual fact, PHPBB has it built in, I just missed it. My brother just e-mailed me to point that out to me, as he is more experienced with PHPBB than I am. So, I’ve turned that on too. This combination of account activation and an anti-bot question should stop the spam dead in its tracks. Let’s hope so.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I’m learning all kinds of new stuff on this forum. Yes, I’ve been through this kind of process. Seems like it should work! Thanks!
