Porn Spam on threads

Hi Keith, this will be my last posting. I have kids who are really keen on writing and Scrivener and I have to block this site now that it has become a repository for porn. Sad. I really love this application and the extraordinary good will shown by most.

I’ll keep a watching brief.

Lord Lightning, this is on my list of things to fix. These spammers are really annoying and I have a script that should hopefully fix it. It takes a little while, though, and I just have not had time so far. I will get it done before the end of the weekend and then hope for the best.

Right, I have hadded an anti-bot mod to the registration process. This makes it necessary for anyone who registers to answer a simple question, such as what is “2+2?” This should hopefully throw the bots. We will just have to see. If anybody knows of an e-mail activation mod for phpBB, let me know.

Thanks Keith, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

I would also be very grateful for an email phpBB activation mod. What an excellent idea.

What, pray tell, is this? And why do you want one, LL? Just curious.

E-mail activation just means that when users register for a forum account, an e-mail gets sent to their e-mail account, and they cannot log in and post until they have clicked on a link in that e-mail to activate their forum account.

And in actual fact, PHPBB has it built in, I just missed it. My brother just e-mailed me to point that out to me, as he is more experienced with PHPBB than I am. So, I’ve turned that on too. This combination of account activation and an anti-bot question should stop the spam dead in its tracks. Let’s hope so. :unamused:

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I’m learning all kinds of new stuff on this forum. Yes, I’ve been through this kind of process. Seems like it should work! Thanks!
