PowerToys is a free add-in for Windows with some useful features.
As Windows users know, our keyboards are very unlike those of Apple that include special characters or diacritics simply by holding down the e key for example and having all variants opened to you.
Well, PowerToys has a feature called Quick Accent Tool, which does something similar, in combination with either the spacebar or left or right arrow keys. I found the default of 300ms too short, so I increased it to 600ms and found the experience very comfortable.
Here’s an explanation of how it works, once enabled: PowerToys Quick Accent utility for Windows | Microsoft Learn
PowerToys can be safely downloaded here: Install PowerToys | Microsoft Learn or from the Microsoft Store.
Installation is seamless and the App runs as part of your System Tray on startup (i.e. always on in the background).
Obviously, it works in Scrivener under both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
