I would like to open a previous version of a project from last year. In the past when I tried it scrivener switched to the older version which took a while to correct to the original newer version. In a sense I would like to have two versions open, one from before and one from the now. Any help on this appreciated. MacOS latest version OS and Scrivener
First backup current project. Now rename the folder of the earlier version of the project. ( old novel etc) . Click on scriv file and scrivener should rename project using the title of the renamed folder.

Safest way to do this would be to create a new project and then import the backup from last year. At this point you could then run the two projects in parallel, or draw out the parts you want to use from last year and copy over to the Research folder or into a otherwise unique top-level folder of your main project.
It is unlikely that this actually happened. Having multiple projects open at once is something that Scrivener is very good at, but keeping track of which version is in which window is a task for the user.
Make sure you have backups. Make sure you know the file names of both projects (and if they are identical, change one of them to avoid confusion.)
Open new project. Open backup project. The backup project will move to the foreground, but the new version will still be open.
