I’ve just started using a Mac so this might be me not knowing what I’m doing.
However, when I tried opening a project created on Windows the Mac refuses to do so, giving me an error about “older format” and “no binder.scrivproj”.
I’m using version 3 for both Windows and Mac, use DropBox, but locally store files on a USB drive.
Do I need to do something on Windows to make the project shareable?
I’ve tried double-clicking the file in Mac and also using Scrivener to open the file, but I get the same error regardless.
Have you installed Dropbox on your Mac, or are you trying to open it directly from the web interface? In order to use it on both Windows and Mac, the .scriv (which will appear as a file on the Mac) needs to be in a Dropbox folder which must be set to stored locally, not kept on the server. Storing it locally on a USB drive won’t make it available through Dropbox.
I have been working in collaboration with Windows users since the Windows version first came out, using both Dropbox and Sync (when Cubby ceased to exist!). Apart from very occasional pilot error when either of us shut down before Dropbox/Sync had fully sync’ed we have had no problems.
I’ve also installd DropBox on my Mac, the external USB is used because of storage size (I’ve a lot in it that’s not Scrivener projects). I’ve synched DropBox with other Windows machines without a problem.
Thanks for the link, I’ll give it a look.
Then the “no binder.scrivproj” suggests that you haven’t made the relevant Dropbox folder always available offline; I think Dropbox (like many cloud services) sets that off by default these days.
And…it was DropBox not fully syncing the subdirectory files, which took a time as there’s a lot of data on the cloud which needed mirroring locally. All’s fine now. Thanks, all.
