I moved a sixty thousand word RTF file into Scrivener, and the file converted but it turned dark. Also, if I try to use the page or edit it, then it takes a few seconds to respond.

There’s no “conversion” involved, as RTF is Scrivener’s native format.
Yes, I would expect mediocre response time, as Scrivener is designed to work best with smaller chunks.
When you say the file “turned dark,” do you see the same in other documents? That is, is the issue formatting of the file itself, or Scrivener’s Appearance settings?
