I’m unable to close either a project or the program itself. Clicking either Exit or the standard upper right hand corner Close button results in nothing. I’m having to bring up the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) to force a close.
Any ideas of what the problem is?

UPDATE: I resolved this by going into Options and turning off the automated backups. After saving and trying to close a project, it was the auto backup pop-up where I could see the process consistently getting stuck at 23% and never finishing. It’s perfectly fine with me to do my own saving and backing up, I do that constantly. Projects now close and the program closes without a hitch.
I also turned off the default of having the most recent project automatically load when opening Scrivener. I prefer to choose what I want to open, using the Most Recent option, or diving deeper to open an older project.
I don’t know the solution, but I will point out that terminating the program that way may imperil the ability of the program to properly save your file, so be careful.
Thanks for the reply, Major Major - I know, it’s worrisome. So far I’m only making dummy projects, testing things, but without being able to close a project or the program, I won’t be able to move on to using Scrivener for a real project, knowing I could lose work. I guess I need to do the tedious uninstall/reinstall routine which sometimes helps with programs. If that doesn’t work, then the even more tedious process of trying to get a definite answer from tech support. - Guess I’m not too thrilled with the program yet!
Contacting technical support shouldn’t be that tedious. I just checked, and it looks like my colleagues on the Windows side are responding in less than 12 hours at the moment. (No, this is not a guarantee, as hordes of Windows users could descend on the queue at any moment. But we do try to answer in 48 hours or less unless we’re truly slammed.)
Thanks much for your reply, Katherine - I will be contacting support, since I still haven’t solved the problem of the program never closing. When I described contacting support as “tedious,” it wasn’t a reflection on your company - it was a statement of how it generally goes when trying to get tech support online. I’ve gotten non-responsive replies so often from companies that now I always dread having to submit a problem to anyone. I’m encouraged, it sounds like asking for some Scrivener help will be a better-than-usual experience. Thanks.
