Query regarding beta installation, use, and progression to full version

I’ve been using Scrivener 3 on my mac book for years. When I upgraded from 2 a long while back I bought the windows licence as well figuring it would be useful to perhaps have a copy on my PC desktop as well. With the lack of backwards compatibility it led me to working on different projects on different machines, but overtime most of it migrated to the mac.

My mac book is now slowly dying. In the current economic climate it’s not so feasible to replace it so I thought I’d try working with the windows beta version. I’m fairly fanatic about keeping my desktop “clean” of unnecessary installations so I figured it would just be best to delete my version 1.9(?) install before putting the beta of 3 on, only things I have read in the FAQ and the forums have raised the following questions.

  1. The old 1.9 will update to 3 when it is officially released, will the beta though switch to “full” release allowing for the input of licence key?

  2. I’ve seen a suggestion in some threads here that every single update to the beta requires a full re-install, and that the beta cannot update versions, is this correct?

Neither of these are exactly showstoppers but I’d like to know what I’m up for before I do this

Removing v1.9 isn’t necessary, but if you have no projects in v1.9 format, you might as well.

Only the devs know for sure, but my “I’m just an educated customer guess” is that the final beta will expire and they’ll separately release the Windows v3 retail version, which will be eligble for 30 day trial and which will require entry of a license key as usual.

For every new beta update, I do the full delete and reinstall, but many users here simply do an upgrade to the next beta, without issue. It’s your choice.

Best,
Jim

Jim is correct: the retail release version will be a different piece of software from the last beta. (If nothing else, we’d need to do a separate release to remove the beta expiration and enable the licensing code.)
