when compiling to doc, docx, pdf italics are converted to underlined

Go into your format’s expanded compile options (right-click on the format, select ‘Edit Format’ or ‘Duplicate and Edit Format’ ) and select the ‘Transformations’ tab. Make sure that ‘Convert italics to underlines’ isn’t selected.
