I have macOS Sequoia 15.4.1, and due to a mistake on my part, I’ve lost the settings and the entire basic structure for creating a new novel. I’m wondering if I should reinstall the app and restore the default settings. I bought the app in August 2022 from the App Store, but I’m hesitant because I have another work in progress, and I don’t know if I’ll lose data and preferences by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Can anyone advise me? Thanks.
Can’t you rebuild your settings and save them as a file before attempting to reinstall? That’s what I do whenever Scrivener acts up.
Do you mean to save the current document as .scriv and then reinstall?
Sorry, I see now that you have a broken document and not a broken installation.
If I were in your shoes, I’d make a new document and use the Copy to Project
command to salvage what can be salvaged. Why not try that?
If the issue is with a single project, there’s no need to reinstall Scrivener and doing so probably won’t help.
Even if you do reinstall, your work is saved separately from the Scrivener application and won’t be affected.
Could you describe what you’re seeing in a little more detail? I’ll up your trust settings so you can post a screenshot if you think that would help.
Thank you for allowing me to upload a screenshot. As you can see, everything looks normal, but when I started this project, I wanted to clean up the interface and deleted many documents and folders installed by default that provided information and resources I now believe I need. A mistake on my part, no doubt. That’s why I thought about reinstalling to restore the application’s basic configuration. My English is very poor, sorry.
The elements of starter projects are part of the project template, not set by Scrivener itself.
I’d recommend creating a new project from the template you want. Then you can either drag your work from this project to the new one, or drag the items you deleted from the new project to this one.
Of course! What I deleted must have been the template for creating a novel with parts.
Thanks for your patience. You’re really doing a great job. If you’re happy with it, we can close this question.
Best regards!
