Remove background color on footnotes when compiling

Hi all. Finishing up my first big project using Scrivener. I have a lot of footnotes and much of the footnote text was copied and pasted from google translate or other sources (so I could get the Chinese and pinyin characters correct.) Unfortunately, this has resulted in many of the footnotes having a light grey background color when I compile my text into a PDF.

I’ve gone through and converted all the footnotes to the default formatting (by right clicking on the footnote) but the text background color still persists. I can’t find a way to remove the background color, except copying the text into MS Word or another program and then copying it back in. Is there a better/faster/cleaner way to remove the background colors from footnotes?

(Similarly, some of the footnotes have a text color of dark grey instead of black. Is there a way to set the footnote formatting during compiling? I’ve looked through the options, but I can’t find anything that looks like it does this. What am I missing?)

I’ve had this problem with annotations added by my Chinese, Windows-using collaborator. I select the text with the background, hold down the mouse button on the highlighter icon in the format bar and, when the panel of colours drops down, choose the “no highlight” square with a cross—I’m on my iPad at the moment so can’t give you a screenshot,

It might be worth trying simply selecting a number of footnotes with background colour and do the “no highlight” routine, to see if you don’t have to go through them all one by one.

HTH
