Remove first-line indent for any paragraph following a headings

What’s happening? The indent is removed from the first paragraph of every text file. My structure is:

  • Draft
    – Folder Book 1
    —Folder (chapter title)
    ---- text file: scene 1
    ---- text file: scene 2
    ---- text file: scene 3

In the editor I am using the default “No Style” Style and all paragraphs are indented.

Check the compile format.

At first, I selected “Remove from first paragraph” and then tried the other options, but I likely got confused because the output remained the same.

It seems the correct option is actually: “Remove from first paragraph and after empty lines.”

I have to admit, I found the manual a bit difficult to follow on this particular topic.

Basically, you need to have this set appropriately for each section layout you have assigned. They form a cascading series:

  • the first option “Do not change” keeps the indent in all circumstances;
  • the second option removes the first line indent in the first paragraph in each binder document with that layout assigned;
  • the third option removes the first line indent in the first paragraph and after any blank line (e.g. as a scene break) in each binder document with that layout assigned;
  • the fourth option removes the first line indent in the first paragraph, after any blank line, and after any paragraph with a style (such as a heading or block quote) in each binder document with that layout assigned.
