Resetting sync between new Mac and iPad

Apparently my old computer did NOT like the coffee I accidently poured into it. I got a new one and fortunately had backups of all but a short amount of work. I had previously set up synchronization between my mac and my iPad via DropBox and I cannot seem to reconnect them. The iPad sees the DropBox directories I had been using fine. I cannot get the new Mac to connect to those same files. Would appreciate any help in making this work.

Make sure that the Dropbox software on the Mac is installed, running, and logged into the correct account. If you have any trouble doing that, or if that doesn’t fix the problem, contact Dropbox support.

I found what I think is the problem. Software was running and I WAS connected to drop box. But because it is a new machine, DB didn’t automatically reconnect to directories the old machine say, I had to use the DB software to make the apps/scriviner folders visible on the new machine.

I am okay in that I have my files and they sync fitfully but I think I still did it wrong from what is expected. Everything worked on my old computer (that died from caffeine poisoning) and thank goodness I was able to recover all my work from backups. Because Dropbox did not recognize new computer as the old one reanimated, I had to create new syncing files and what I did sort of works.

I think if I understood the answer to the following, i can fix everything.

When set up on Mac, where does Scrivener normally save its projects. I know it is “apps/scrivener” but what folder does “apps” live in.

My guess is there is a system location for this. I am saving it currently in dropbox/apps/scrivener and my guess is I should be sync to that from the original file.

Then the iPad will read and write to the version in dropbox. Do I understand correctly?

Thanks,
wck

Mac Scrivener saves projects wherever you tell it to, and has no knowledge that Dropbox exists.

iOS Scrivener, by default, looks in the Dropbox/Apps/Scrivener folder.

So, for ease of synchronization, that’s where Mac Scrivener should put its projects.

Full instructions for setting up synchronization can be found here:

Thanks, I think I was re-coming to that conclusion. So I will keep first book and other projects in my Documents/Scrivener folder but the two files I want to share in Dropbox/Apps/Scrivener.

It has been so long since I first set it up and everything worked that I got worried when I hit concerning speedbumps.

All I can say is enjoy your Latte but just not near your computer, otherwise things get both expensive and confusing  And always back up.
