A simple question. I last reviewed my project on 07/09/2024. I opened it today, did some work on it, and exited from Scrivener.
In the file directory, the date has not changed, it is still 07/09/20214. I would expect it to be 11/09/2024.
Should I worry?
It very much depends on which specific file date property and which specific folder or file (there are hundreds if not thousands of files in a Scrivener project) you are looking at.
The most important test:
Are those changes present when you re-open the project? If yes, surely no need to worry.
If you’re talking about the Date Modified in File Explorer of the SCRIV project folder, then no, it doesn’t update. But going into the project folder, the SCRIVX file’s Date Modified does update with the latest save (typically on exit if set to do so).
The SCRIVX is your project’s control file.
If you set up Scrivener to back up on close (look at the options panel > Backup) Then if you do zip backups, you have the option to use dates on the backup. Then if you check on your backup folder you can see the date of your last backup. Kevitec57 is right that the project folder date is not tied to the last time you changed the Scrivener project. When actively writing, I always backup my zip backups to a cloud folder and if a novel backup to external drive as well. I would rather overbackup than lose a large chunk of writing.
