If I set up a split screen with two separate projects, one in each part of the window, is there a way to save the window split layout so that when I come back at a later time I can just open up both at once and pick up where I left off?
Or in two separate windows, which would probably be even better, because what I want to be able to do is load multiple projects and/or multiple views of a project and be able to return to the project without having to reload and rearrange all over again.
A window can only keep one Project.
Are Editor split settings not saved in a Layout? Window > Layouts > Layout Manager.

This way of working sounds very similar to what I describe in this post, and I refer to using Saved Layouts there as a way of saving yourself time. You can read more about this feature in §12.3, Saved Layouts, in the user manual PDF.
