Hi, I keep getting messages that my writing is not being saved. I am saving to cloud, so I don’t think there is a limit to what I can save, and therefore this is a bit odd. What can I do
Appreciate a fast response from anyone who has an answer to this.
Could you please post the actual wording of the error, or a screenshot of it? There are simply too many different possible warnings and errors for anyone to speculate on what is going on.
I would certainly in the meanwhile keep your working project stored outside of any folders that a cloud service might be tampering with though! No sense in risking your work until you get things resolved. Test only with disposable data, like a copy of the interactive tutorial.
It is in Swedish, so I will try to translate:
"The following error took place when you saved your project:
It wasn’t possible to save the project.
Error: Could not change name of the project.
To avoi that the latest changes are not lost, please make sure you have enough space on your savingunit.
You can save a copy of your work using Save As.
YOu can also try to compile and save to RTF og DOC format to avoid loosing your latest changes. "
By the way, I would also like to change the language to Norwegian or English, but can’t find where to do that. And, concerning the Error mentioned above, I have not tried to change a name of the project. THanks for any assistance
the message is in Scrivener and I am saving to Cloud, at least so I thought…
If I am doing both, I am not sure. Is there a way to find out? I am quite new with Scrivener.
Maybe better to store your projects local (not on a local folder that is synced), and store your Scrivener backups (as zip files) on that cloud service if you want?
Agree with rms. Project should be on the machine itself not cloud and zip backups can in a folder on the cloud service . Check location of zip backups and how you backup on File>Options>Backup I have several articles on backing up on my website. Back Up Options — My Writing Journey I have two other articles there and a bunch of other scrivener topics.
Not a reason for putting your Scrivener projects in that sync location which can cause all kinds of issues. Scrivener expects files to be local, and your cloud service will do whatever they want to your files. Not good.
The error message you are getting is what happens if Scrivener cannot save a file to the location where the project is stored. This typically more often happens with removable devices that got ejected while the project was still open, or if there are permission issues making some files read-only to you. But really all kinds of write errors can cause that error, even a faulty drive cable.
So I can only guess that this cloud service you use is doing something unusual with how it manages files. There may be a setting you can change that makes it sync every locally, if it isn’t doing that already.
But if you can’t find a way to make it work, I second the advice to consider keeping the project stored outside of it, and instead point your automatic backup folder to save to it (in File ▸ Options..., Backup tab). Uploading single .zip files one at a time, whenever the project is closed, is generally much easier to sync to handle that how Scrivener tries to save many files at once from an open project.
By the way, I would also like to change the language to Norwegian or English, but can’t find where to do that. And, concerning the Error mentioned above, I have not tried to change a name of the project. THanks for any assistance
You can change the interface language in the General: Language options tab.
