I have complex scapple files that change frequently, with PNG copies used to paste into Word docs. What I would like is to have the ability to have the Scapple app provide me tha ability to add a “File Note” to a file that includes last saved date and file name, etc. This would be akin to the Title Block in technical drawings. Would enable me to quickly ascertain what drawing copy I had, etc. and provide info for other readers
You should already be getting this from the Print→PDF route, where you will find a “header and footer” checkbox, that inserts the filename and date, and then of course as with any Mac print dialogue, a button to save as PDF. By and large that will give you a much better quality image than PNG anyway, as it will be scalable.
But if for some reason you really need PNG, then there are surely piles of tools that will insert a watermark like this, out there, for any image you want. I would use ImageMagick for this, as it can be automated with a command line script.
