My scratchpad opens but doesn’t allow me to use it. It says “no selection,” and when i try to click the “+” to add a new note, nothing happens. i tried opening a different scrivener project to see if scratch pad worked there but encountered the same problem.
I would temporarily try a different scratch pad folder. You can change this safely and freely (some might even have several scratch pad folders for different purposes) in the General: Scratchpad settings tab. Click the Choose... button and just create an empty folder somewhere and select it.
You should get an untitled note when you open the scratch pad the next time. If that works you could try setting it back to the other folder and see if that cleared up whatever had it confused.
Otherwise, if a fresh folder doesn’t work either then I would reinstall the software. The symptoms you describe do not match any of the intended fail safe conditions, so something isn’t quite right to begin with.
As an aside, the scratch pad has nothing to do with any projects, you can even use it with all projects closed, so what you have open in the background of it won’t make a difference.
thank you! choosing a new folder worked–yay! should i change the folder back to the location it was before, or is it ok to use this new folder indefinitely?
Okay! You could try setting it back to the original folder just to see if it works, there is no harm in that. But if it goes back to not working, sure it’s fine to just switch over to this new folder.
You can drag your note files from the old folder into the new one, using Finder, and once you’ve done that, trash the old folder.
