I converted a new text page to Script Mode (US) and the indents for characters, dialogue, and action lines seem to follow the industry standard for screenplays. However, on a subsequent text page the indents are erroneous. Especially the dialogue only being indented a 1/2 inch from the left margin instead of 1 1/2 inches per the first page. As well, the font face is Sitka Text rather than Courier Prime.
Why would the indents on this page be different and how do I correct it?

- Place your cursor in document 1âs Editor.
- Select File â Options â Editing â Formatting.
- Thereâs a button to set the underlying content as your default.
- Once done, in the Binder, right-click and select Add To â and choose the Templates Folder.
- Pop down to the Templates folder and strip out your text. Your formatting will remain intact.
- Give the template document a meaningful name.
- When creating a new Script, press the green cross icon and select your template.
Youâve now set default settings for all documents, in all projects (which may not be what you need), and have a default for scripts.
Alternatively, thereâs a similar setting in the Project menu that sets the default setting for your current project only.
Some of the names may differ to what I suggested. Iâm not at my computer now. But Iâm sure theyâre close enough.

Hi @CyberGolem. What do you mean by ânew text pageâ? Do you mean a new Binder document? And are you using Page View?
From what you say, it seems to me that you are actually referring to a new binder document, rather than a page in Page View (those should be created automatically when the current page is âfullâ. But if itâs a new Binder document in question, it might not be created in Script mode, depending on the template you started from.
Can you confirm that the erroneous ânew pagesâ are in Script Mode?

Thanks! Knowing ways to tailor an app is very helpful. Iâve used other apps for >ahem< decades, so remaining calm during teething issues on a new app is much easier with the help of a supportive community. And you have been the spearhead in that respect, so again, thank you.

Hi Mark,
By a ânew text pageâ is when I right-click on Draft > Add > âNew Textâ. I then changed this to âScript Mode (US)â via ctrl+8 and the indents worked as expected. However, when doing this again by creating another page/doc/chapter(?) [Draft > Add > New Text], and converting that to Script Mode (US), the tabs arenât like the previous doc, and I wasnât sure why.
Hope that clears it up.

Sorry not to have replied more quickly.
Iâm a Mac-user and canât really help with issues under Windows, but I thought it wise to ask, as, like many new users, referring to things the way you see them rather than using Scrivener terminology can make it more difficult for other forum members to provide help.
For instance, in Scrivener there is no concept of page, other than if you use View > Text Editing > Show Page View, so I felt that needed clarifying, also that you were indeed setting it to Script mode.
As for the problem you encountered, as I said, Iâm in no position to help as a Mac-based fellow user, more particularly as there is no code shared between the two versions, so Mac issues are different from Windows issues and v.v.

No worries, and I appreciate any feedback at all since crickets are all too common online.
Anyway, given Iâve spent most of my career in front of some type of creative app or another since the 90âs, it wasnât lost on me that the terminology was likely different. So, if itâs any consolation, I tried using Scrivenerâs terminology by using terms as they appeared on a cursor hover or as they were spelled out in its respective menu. No doubt I may have slipped into other conventions, so apologies for any confusion in that regard.
