Scriptwriting auto-complete not working in 3.5.1

Scrivener 3.5.1 Mac OS 15.6.1
When I write a script, Character names should auto-complete on the first letter of the name.
Since updating to v.3.5.1 this do longer happens, even though the names are in Project Auto-complete. (Note: I am not trying to import a FDX file.)
Also: There is no example script in the “Research” folder.

First, double-check to make sure auto-complete is enabled in Settings. You’ll find the options toward the bottom of the Corrections tab. You want Suggest completions as you type enabled, and the secondary option below it is arbitrary in your case, as you would be in scriptwriting mode already.

But that does then lead into the second thing to check. Since the defaults are to not complete while typing when in standard text items, make sure the context you are typing into is in scriptwriting mode. The icon should be yellowish, and the editor footer bar should have the scriptwriting hints and element selection menu, instead of general purpose statistics.

The last thing I would make note of, for anyone else coming along, are the change log notes for 3.5:

  • On macOS 26, there is now a slightly longer delay for the auto-complete suggestions list appearing during typing when “Show suggestions list while typing” is turned on in Settings. This is to avoid choppy typing caused by Apple adding an animation whenever the suggestions list appears. This means that if you are, for example, typing a scene heading in script mode, you will now need to pause typing very briefly to see the list of completions. (Or you can hit ⌥ Esc to see suggestions immediately.) Turning on “Reduce motion” in macOS’s accessibility settings removes the animation, in which case Scrivener will use the older, shorter delay.

So as noted there, this should be of no impact to you, on macOS 15, the delay is only introduced on 26, but again, someone else may wonder what is going on and I might as well get it out of the way.

Thank you. That solved it. Once again you are awarded 3 Wombat Poos for efficient follow-up.
However, the Manual says there should be an example script in the “Research” folder. I don’t need it, but it seems to have fallen out.
Cheers

There should be a PDF in there, if not maybe it got trashed at some point, but that’s no big deal. You can just make another screenplay project in a temporary location, like the Downloads folder, and drag and drop it from that into your main project, then close and discard the other project.
