Scrivener 1.50 available; website updated

Hello all,

Just to let you know, in case you missed the automatic update, that Scrivener 1.5 is now available for download. This fixes a number of bugs and adds various refinements, all of which can be found in the change list. A couple of things to note:

• When the update was first posted, there was a problem where the update procedure didn’t work properly. This was caused by a missing updater file in 1.5 and is now fixed. If you downloaded and had this problem, it shouldn’t cause any problems for future updates, but if you want to be absolutely sure you could always re-download from the Scrivener product page.
• I would recommend re-downloading the DMG from the main product page anyway, just to re-install the Extras if you use them. Because of changes between 1.11 and 1.50, if you create a project from a template created in an earlier version, you will get the “project wasn’t closed properly” message when the new project is first opened. (If you have your own templates, it’s a good idea to update them.)

This is the last version of Scrivener 1.x. Obviously if any bugs come to light there may be a 1.51 or 1.52 release just to fix these bugs, but there will be no new features for 1.x. All development is now being turned towards getting Scrivener 2.0 ready for later in the year (no set or even rough date as yet).

To coincide with 1.5, we’ve also updated the website a little. It now provides better information about getting support, how to retrieve your serial number and so forth.

All the best,
Keith

Thank you!

Your hard work is very appreciated.

Vic

vic-k, you crack me up. As always.

Oboy, here we go again. I know I went through this panic the last time there was an update. Keith, you will be royally sick of me, so let me preface my stupid question with a heartfelt thank you yet again for Scrivener, which saved EVERYTHING, to the last comma, on my very complicated project when my computer crashed unexpectedly three times last week. Worth sitting through the Synchronising Strings to get everything back unscathed.

Now the stupid question:

How do I install the update? I don’t even know what version of Scriv I am running, or how to find out. I know that I modified it on Dec. 8, 2007. I am not, you will be astonished to learn, particularly computer savvy. I need to be talked to as if I were a 6 year old. Three easy steps, that kind of thing.

I’m really sorry to continue to take up space with the basics so much. :frowning:

Zoe

Hi Zoe, just select “Check for Updates” from the Scrivener menu and it will walk you through the process. Or, just re-download and re-install from the main Scrivener product page. Let me know if you need more assistance!
All the best,
Keith

Oh.
Duh.

Will do.

(I keep Scriv closed except when I am actively working on it, as I don’t want my other apps crashing and hurting my precious work, so will do all this when I reopen it tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.)

It’s a good thing they don’t shoot people for ignorance anymore.

(I did look at the change list briefly and am thrilled that I will be able to choose highlighting of my choice and search by colour. I was yearning to do so just the other day, though damned if I can remember why.)

Cheers–THANK YOU!! :-))

Zoe

Zoe,
I just luv…luv…luv it when you ask daft questions, cos it means I don`
t have to!

I am happy to serve the entire Scrivener community in like fashion. Any time.

Thanks for the update!

Keep up the good work!

Keith,

Congrats on getting this to 1.5 and on running an extremely responsive beta testing process with your user community.

Superb software which keeps getting better - well done.

Cheers, Andrew.

I’m singing loud, too!

I noticed a couple things with the site roll-out:

  1. The “30-day Demo” button needs a border="0" attribute, unless you intended it to be enclosed in a box (shows up in Firefox). This box also appears around the “Download” button on the subsequent page.
  2. Jenny Diski’s testimonial has an encoding glitch around the word “Scrivener” in first line.

Otherwise, yay!

Success!! :-)))

Love it!

Of course now I am going to lose at least a couple of days’ productivity while I play with the arbitrary highlight colors.

(I should never have been graduated from kindergarten. Blush.)

Thanks all! And thanks Amber - should be fixed now.

I like the site re-vamp . But what I really, really want to know is - Keith, are you the one without the blue tie?

H

What have you got against my tie? Elasticated, and a beautiful complement to my tanktop…

Finally, the update! Thanks for all the hard work

I don’t close programs, so it’s a good thing I got the e-mail reminding me about the update. I think you’re being too optimistic about the release date of 2.0 being this year

To bad I couldn’t download the 1.5 update TWICE then combine them together and have version 3.0 (which doesn’t exist).

Then I could be ahead of everyone!

Good to see 1.5 hit GM

Hmm. It seems to work for me just fine, Wock.

Well to celebrate I bought my copy today - just don’t bring out 2.0 tomorrow :stuck_out_tongue:

I love it - I’m using it to organise my blog posts on. So much better than anything else I’ve tried.
