I’m on version 3.1.5.1. I just want to change the fonts that go onto my chapter titles. I’ve spent hours going through various forums, and I still haven’t figured it out.
I created and assigned a section type to each part, chapter, and scene, then created a custom layout for each section type and applied them accordingly. After hours, I was successfully able to get most of the formatting I wanted to appear on the final compiled version, all except for the font and font size. The preview shows the font, but the compiled copy won’t.
I tried:
-In compile format designer \ section layouts \ formatting, I changed the font of the “section title”
-I also created a Style and applied the style to the “section title” in the above window.
-Change the File \ options \ formatting text (didn’t really apply to my section/chapter/scene titles)
Some forums said to uncheck a “override” checkbox, but I don’t have that; it might not be in the version I’m using. In the same place, I have a dropdown menu that says:
“Text and notes use editor formatting”, “Text and notes use custom formatting”, “Text and notes use default paragraph formatting”. I tried all the options and they didn’t seem to affect anything.
That’s on the chapter/scene/section titles. At least I got some of that formatting to work. I’m at a complete loss for my title page. I tried creating a style for the text, and same thing: it won’t compile. I tried formatting it in the editor the way I wanted, and selected the “New Page” layout that says "MAIN text will be based on how it appears in the editor. " I don’t know what I was expecting… I supposed I was expecting the main text to be based on how it appeared in the editor, but that text got reverted to the default body text, so that option did nothing.
Hi Antoni, yes I did. I made section types specific for my parts, chapters, and sub-chapters. I also made a section layout for parts, a section layout for chapters, and a section layout for sub-chapters. Then applied the section layout to the section types in the compiler. I know it worked (except for fonts) because the formatting for each worked perfectly fine (after some trial and error).
I had to look up what an embedded font is. I don’t think I’m using an embedded font; I just picked one of Scrivener’s built-in fonts. Would I still need to go to Sigil for that?
And yes, I did apply the section types to each section. I right clicked on the text files and folders and went Section Types, and selected the corresponding section type.
No, if you want the reader to use the fonts standard installed on the e-reader. These are different per manufacturer. Users choose their favorite font.
When you want your text in an e-book to show in a Publisher font, you’ll have to embed the font via the CSS Stylesheet.
Users can still choose their favorite font, but when they choose for the Publisher font, it will actually show the font embedded in the e-book.
But Scrivener will not include embedded fonts, so in that case, yes, you’ll have to use Sigil to add one (usually in four variants).
Ah, I’m beginning to understand. What if I wanted to compile for print? I may be getting way ahead of myself, but I wanted to have fun customizing the book. Is ther a tutorial somewhere on embedding in the CSS stylesheet?
