Scrivener compile hangs on MacOS 13.7

I have been fighting through a current project with Scrivener 3.3.6 - its 103,500 words across 7 chapters. I tried to compile this to PDF a while back and it just hangs - sometimes at 25% other times at 50% and on occasion at 90% but it never compiles to PDF. It hangs on docx as well. I’ve gone through the entire document and “zapped gremlins” which did nothing but swallow 2 hours of my time. I’ve now gone through and removed ALL images which did nothing but destroy my layout and still it didn’t compile. I’ve searched and searched for a solution online but nothing works. I can see that this has been a problem on Macs for at least 6 years from what I can see. Is there anyone out there that can help? I’m really at wits end which is why I broke down and posted here in the forum.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Do the chapters compile successfully individually?

Some chapters compile successfully and some do not. For example: 1, 3,5,6 compile individually just fine but 2,4,7, Appendix do not. I was able to select the entire document and print as a PDF and that seemed to work but I don’t know how to include the front matter as I can print either or but not both together.

Okay, the next step is to figure out what’s different about the chapters that refuse to Compile. Do they have tables? Images? Some other kind of unusual formatting? Were they written directly in Scrivener, or imported from another tool?

If you split one of the problem chapters into pieces, do the pieces compile? If not, you can split it down further until you isolate the problem section. Drag it into a new project, and see if it compiles there. If not, send a zip backup to our support address:

The easiest way to include Front Matter in the Print Current Document command is to temporarily drag the Front Matter folder into the draft, and then include it in the same Scrivenings session as everything else.

Ok I’ll give it a try and will let you know how I get on. Thanks.

Yeah - that didn’t work. I already removed all images and gremlins and tables and just about every other useful thing besides just raw text and this thing isn’t compiling.

What didn’t work?

Again, once you’ve isolated a specific chunk of manuscript that fails to Compile, we’d be happy to have a look and help you figure out why not.
