Check if there is MultiArch support also. It is even better than ia32 (which will be deprecated if MultiArch is enabled anyway)

Tried both of these; the first did not install, the second yielded the same results:

Is Scrivener for Linux 64 bit? I’m already running a 32 bit Linux/Kubuntu installation. So, ialibs-32 supposedly is already there?

Also tried this (which is supposed to install the ia32 library) but it yielded the same result: bouncing min-icon, minimized to tray, then nothing. No splash screen or welcome page.

Does anyone know what the installation path for the executable is under Ubuntu/Kubuntu? I still can’t get this program running.

These notes pertain to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Install GDebi Package Installer found in Ubuntu Software Centre.
Then use System Tools > GDebi Package Installer to install downloaded Scrivener deb package.

My installation path is /usr/share/scrivener/bin
Use the command locate scrivener to find all files.

But Scrivener beta still sits unused because of the Qt library incompatibility which is not yet solved.
Meanwhile Scrivener windows runs in Ubuntu Wine.

I already had multi-arch support setup from a prior attempt at getting Steam installed. scrivener-1.5.3.1-beta.deb installed right away with sudo dpkg -i, but when I invoked the command it complained about not finding libgstapp-0.10.so. A little poking around revealed this library is provided by the gstreamer packages and that I already had the 64bit versions of those packages. I did a

sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0:i386

and that fixed Scrivener.

I don’t know if this has been covered here yet. I’m having some issues with installing the latest beta.

bryant@Veloc-Fulnem ~ $ scrivener /usr/share/scrivener/bin/scrivener.sh: 36: exec: /usr/share/scrivener/bin/Scrivener: not found

I’ve tried reinstalling and removing it with apt-get but no matter what I do I get the same error, following the logs on the computer when trying the launcher it throws the same error as I get when trying to use the terminal to open it.

As you see, it’s all there… just doesn’t want to work…

Sorry if this doesn’t seem wll worded, it’s a tad late when I finally decided to post this.

Give some more info on what linux distro you’re installing
32 or 64 bit?

To list all the installed scrivener files run this command

ls -R /usr/share/scrivener

to look just for scrivener.sh run this command

updatedb
locate scrivener.sh

then we can take it from there.

Looks like you have Mint 64 bit distro?
You can see from the listing that /usr/share/scrivener/bin/scrivener.sh is installed … although you report an error …

Comparing with my (32 bit ubuntu 12.04) setup you have three library files missing in /usr/share/scrivener/lib …

libQtDBus.so.4
libQtDBus.so.4.8
libQtDBus.so.4.8.0

I’ve attached these below in libQtDBus.tar for you to unpack and drop into /usr/share/scrivener/lib folder. This avoids the Qt compatibility issues although you don’t report this error.

[note: these files work for ubuntu-12.04 32 bit LTS but you may need the file versions for your linux distro so be prepared to remove them if experiment doesn’t work]

I would also try taking ownership of the scrivener installation by running this command …

sudo chown -R bryant:bryant /usr/share/scrivener/

Sucessfully (I thought) installed the Linux 1.5.3.1 beta release on 32bit Ubuntu 12.04 via .deb package. Scrivener opens fine, most things work fine, BUT, when I try and take a snapshot the software immediately closes. When I try and open audio file (in the tutorial) the software also immediately closes.

I’d rather not run via wine.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I do remember some time ago Scrivener closing when I tried taking snapshots during tests.
I’ve just tried again … in Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit … and I see I can take document snapshots.

I’ve been trying to use Scrivener for several days now (see my message above) and it seems full of bugs - it shuts instantly if I try and import media, look at media files in the tutorial etc. This makes it pretty much unworkable. I’ve performed all the Ubuntu 12.04 updates, restarted the computer, checked for Scrivener updates etc. and it still doesn’t work.

Anyone got any other suggestions/ Am I better using an older version of Scrivener? Or reverting back to Ubuntu 11 (I’ve been thinking about doing this anyway). I could always install via Wine but I’d rather not…

Update.
As people have previously had issues with the qtlib files and Scrivener I uninstalled Scrivener (sudo apt-get remove scrivener and sudo apt-get autoremove). I think unpacked the .deb scrivener file to a temporary drive (using these instructions: geekwentfreak-raviteja.rhcloud. … b-package/) and did the same with the qt 4.8.0 library files. I then copied the three 4.8.0 library files into the scrivener lib folder and repackaged it to a deb file using the link above. I then installed the scrivener file. At every possible step I restarted the computer…just incase this helped with anything. Still no luck.

have you run the command suggested earlier

can you post the results from terminal output?

You should not need to repackage the *.deb package. The three Qt files can be simply copied into scrivener/lib (ensure that the files have the correct permissions for Scrivener to run).
