Scrivener for Windows - Problem with Dialogue Focus and comma after direct speech in German [and others]

Hello everybody,

I am new to this forum and only started using Scrivener for Windows a few days ago. I am writing in German and hope you can help me with a problem. I have set Chevrons like »direct speech« for direct speech in the settings. When I switch on the dialogue focus function, this unfortunately only works partially. If I write a direct speech followed by a comma and an accompanying sentence, the accompanying sentence is also recognised as direct speech. Example:

»Can someone please help me with this?«, I asked the group.
=> , I asked the group is erroneously also recognised as direct speech.

»If I leave out the comma« it works.
==> it works is no longer recognised as direct speech

However, the rule in the German language is that a comma must be used. If I delete the comma, the accompanying sentence is no longer recognised as direct speech. Am I doing something wrong or is the function simply not designed for the German language?

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Ingmar

Thanks for the report! It looks like we have this one written up, almost exactly as described. It isn’t a matter of the text being German, there are other regions and languages that put punctuation outside of the speech marks, too—it will even happen with ASCII straight quotes.

Hi Amber,

Thanks for your quick reply. Will that functionality somehow be changed with an upcoming update?

Best regards,
Ingmar

Yes, it is filed as a bug, sorry if that wasn’t made clear.
