Word counts sometimes don’t match
Greetings yall!
I’ve noticed this happening several times, and I’m not sure if it’s a bug or if there’s a checkbox somewhere I need to check/uncheck. I’m just very curious about why it’s happening, and can’t find anything through google.
When I hover over the word count at the bottom of the editor to view the Statistics, 95% of the time the word count in the Statistics window is going to be the same as the number in the bottom of the screen (as expected). But then there is that 5% of the time where the number in the Statistics windows is different from the number at the bottom of the screen, as shown in one of these screen shots. I have no comments, annotations or footnotes in any of these documents.
I’ve also tried dragging-and-dropping documents between Scrivener projects. In one project the word count will be one number, but after dragging it into another project the word count will sometimes change to another number (still showing an identical word count in the Statistics window, but the number at the bottom of the screen changes), despite the text obviously not changing at all.
If I try to select all text, the bottom line will state that I have the correct number of words selected out of the wrong number of words (as shown in this last screenshot, it says I have 234 words selected out of 153)

It’s just a little bizarre and I’m wondering if there’s something I’ve overlooked.
