Ah, I am enlightened All perfectly understandable reasons Especially since this is all about finding a way to work that works for Us as individuals. And when I tend to say iDevice, I tend to encompass all portable devices, Laptops, Tablets, readers, hybrids, heck even palm pilots lol
This oneās on-topic anyway. As a happy Windows touch user, will there be a difference between Mac v3 and iOS versions? and will the Apple/Window version files be backward or forward / platform compatible? Gotta get a new computer sometime.
Mac OS X and iOS are different platforms and will require different versions of Scrivener for the foreseeable future.
The current (Mac 2.7/Win 1.9) project format will be compatible with iOS 1.0 as well. No further changes to the project format are anticipated, but of course we donāt know what the future will bring. I would expect that the project format will always be compatible across whatever platforms are available at the time of release.
I downloaded the trial version of Scrivener today and was/am planning to buy it, but Iām concerned about how some features havenāt been added to the Windows version after years. I read a blog post that mentioned how the program could set daily target goals and that was what attracted me to the software. The blog post mentioned that the Windows version of the software didnāt have that feature yet, but since the blog post was several years old I was hoping it would be implemented by now.
Does anyone know if there is an ETA on that specific feature or is the Windows version simply on the backburner? I donāt know if thereās any good alternatives to Scrivener, but I really wanted the target feature for my dissertation.
Short form: Keith working on Scrivener iOS is not distracting the Windows guy. Itās just thereās a LOT of work for one set of hands, and those hands can be fixing bugs in legacy 1.9, or bridging the gap with the forthcoming v3. Given all the goodies they are talking about for v3, and how often users on the forums ask for those featuresā¦well, I for one am fine with the priority list. Your mileage may vary.
No ETA has been announced for Scrivener for Windows 3.x.
Just go to Project>Project Targets. The box that pops up will let you fill in the target word count for the entire project as well as the session target. Both have a word meter.
There is also a target word count for just the document you are working on. If you look at the bottom right of the Scrivener screen, on the gray bar there is a circle. If you click on it, you can set your target for the document. As soon as you do, the word meter shows up. I often write in one document for the day. I copy and paste my work into the other files as needed.
I guess technically I donāt need the entire daily target tracked by the program. I can figure out the math myself and set a daily target manually, as you said. I was just a bit disappointed, but youāre right. Thank you.
Quote- āthose instances typically only occur when someone is being unnecessarily negative themselves.ā I didnāt realise that there were self appointed negativity judges on the forum. I always believed that although Scrivener is an outstanding piece of software, the windows version does have its problems. Some users have genuine difficulty and their posts are legitimate whether they are positive or not. It is a forum to discuss the software and seek assistance.
Ack, sorry, Kewms, am on my way back to my own corner. Sometimes itās hardly worth chewing through the straps. I shall sit quietly, sup my troll ale, and play jackstraws with the fanbois bones I found.
I have been using Scrivener for Windows for a while now and I would be most grateful if you could let me know when the Windows update will be ready. My issues are about how it displays in the Surface Pro 4 screen, it is small I canāt increase the view and not everything is displayed which makes it cumbersome to navigate.
I have to agree. In fact, I have stopped using Scrivener. I may start using it again when version three is released. But till then, I will leave it well enough alone. Really, all Scrivener does is keep things organized, but it gives you a fairly poor text editor. Iāve always had to do my final edits in Word, so why use Scrivener? Well, simple. keep things organized. As I used it more, I found things missingālike built-in timeline tool. So, I tried to use Aeon Timeline with Scrivener, but I found the software overly complicated.
Bottom line, I want a good text editor with all the add-ins I need, or at leat the option to open an external editor from within the software.
I want timeline abilities, but nothing too complicated.
I want to keep my stuff organized and in one place.
Well, I think I found the answer. At least till Scrivener 3 comes out. I now use Memo Master. It keeps me organized and allows me to use Word as the main editor. It also allows me to use spreadsheets for timelines. Ok, there are things it canāt do, like keep track of word count if you use Word, but thatās minor. It will track word count if you use its editor, though.
Donāt get me wrong. Iāve used Scrivener for several years and have liked it. I just think itās time for an upgrade and some added features. I will return when version 3 is released.
Hello, everyone. This is my first post on this forum. I wish to commend Keith Blount for crafting an excellent and useful program for organizing compositions, research, and notes. Unfortunately, after prematurely purchasing the program, I discovered that my PC version lacked an important feature that exists in the advanced Macintosh version. It is clear from what Iāve read on this forum that a Windows update is not forthcoming anytime soon. Disappointed, I requested a refund. But now Iāve reconsidered. Iāll consider the money I paid as a donation towards program development. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this program to any PC user until the Windows version achieves parity with the Macintosh version. But it appears that parity may never happen. I will, however, heartily recommend this program to any writer that uses a Macintosh.
I donāt get it⦠all these grumpy, complaining persons in here.
There are millions of apps out there, for doing all sorts of things. I have tried a lot of different āProductivity appsā, for writing, taking notes, organizing stuff, managing to-doās, etc. Some I just skipped right away, for the only reason that they couldnāt do what I wanted to do. Some I tried for a while, and either slowly forgot to use or replaced with some other app, and some I keep using, often or seldom depending on my current needs.
But I have never tried to convince the people/company behind an app to make it into something else, or complained about it not being able to do what I wanted, or demanded that they update or upgrade or improve it.
WYBIWYG! What you buy is what you get, thatās all there is to it.
If you donāt like Scrivener, donāt use it! Use something else! But why on earth do you spend time informing us Scrivener-users that YOU will NOT use Scrivener? Whatās the point? As I said, I donāt get itā¦
Well said. At least three in the past week have taken the time to set up new accounts here for just that purpose. Everyoneās bombarded with marketing materials; we partake in only a few of the opportunities we consider. Canāt imagine what would possess someone to write up the shops, vacations and books she declined to pursue, on their own sites. How fortunate that one of these deeply concerned individuals had another software product to recommend to us in Scrivenerās stead.
Itās not even WYBIWYG, itās WYTIWYG. What you TRY is what you get. You get a nice long, full-featured trial to test it out and see if itās for you. If, during that trial, you find that Scrivener is missing something you require to work, then you donāt have to buy it.
Iām just confused as to what makes this program unusable to some, when it does what itās explicitly explained to do, and it does it rather well (if you do what youāre supposed to do with it). No, it doesnāt do everything. But nothing does everything. I wish that my truck had a built-in refrigerator in the cab and a hot tub in the bed, but I donāt complain to Chevrolet that these things arenāt included in the package. I realize that what I got does what I need it to do, and I make use of it in the best way possible.
Iām sorry that Scrivener apparently doesnāt work right for some people. Itās unfortunate that theyāre unable to get it to do what they need it to do. I hope that theyāre able to find something that works for them as well as Scrivener works for me and for the many other people on this forum.
