Scrivener not syncing after accidental deletion (iPad)

new to scrivener and my setup might be causing problems.
I have scrivener installed on Macbook (M1 Pro), set the file to be saved in Dropbox (with backup in a local folder) so that I can access my writings on my Phone.

Lately I bought an iPad which I synced w the iPhone. I noticed that some files were not syncing so I deleted the entire app from the iPad and reinstalled it in the hope that it would force a sync, but alas, none of the Scrivener projects (which I can see in my Macbook and iPhone) cannot be seen on iPad.

Is there a way to get my iPad to show the files again? Thank you very much in advance..!

Welcome to the Scrivener forum.

You need to setup your new iPad to sync with Dropbox, not iPhone. Just like you apparently did with the iPhone. A mystery to me how you “synced with iPhone”, but that won’t work anyway.

As using Dropbox, set all to sync with Dropbox, not iPhone. And always give enough time for the device to sync ‘up’ to Dropbox server, then ‘down’ again to other devices.

Also, this from L&L may help.

thank you for your help! the Dropbox in iPad is also synced (i can see all the files there), but Scrivener (on iPad) seems to have lost the ability to retrieve the files from Dropbox. is there a way around it?

Have you gone thru the setup instructions, step by step, again? And checked the troubleshooting steps?

The “way around” is to setup exactly as in the instructions.

You want to check the sync folder setting on the phone, for reference, and then make sure the iPad is looking at the same folder. It sounds to me like maybe you used a different folder on the phone (and desktop) at some point, but accepted the defaults on the iPad, so they are looking at two different Dropbox folders, but that’s just a guess.

the Dropbox in iPad is also synced (i can see all the files there)

To clarify that point, if you installed Dropbox on the iPad, it will only sync to Files.app in its dedicated area for doing so, not into places like Scrivener’s folder (or anywhere in the “On My iPad” section).

It would be great if Apple made it as simple as you’re looking for it to be though! Maybe some day, it’s a lot better than it used to be, but you still have to jump through hoops. If they do ever fix that, we can finally remove our own Dropbox button in the software and just let you load projects normally straight out of Files, or more like you would on your Mac or PC.
