Scrivener randomly injects text color and underline

Several places in my project have blue, underlined text.

Sample: “That explains a lot of their questions,” Weezy said. And I know who did the hacks.

P.E. cleared her throat. “Can you tell me about what happened from the time I called you to come in? In detail.”

The first line is standard black characters. In my Scriv file, the brown stuff is blue and is underlined. It’s apparently not and internal link, and I can’t change color or underline manually. It compiles similarly to the brown text above with no underline, and word thinks it’s a hyperlink. For all I know, I inadvertently linked it, but in Edit, Edit Link and Remove Link are grayed out/inoperative. Any ideas

Have you tried cutting it, along a little bit of what is ahead and after, and then pasting it right back in, using Edit / Paste and Match Style ?

Was this text typed directly in Scrivener, or pasted from elsewhere?

Good idea. But … came right back as a link (I’m guessing, because that’s whaat Word thinks when I compile)

Direct typed, and it didn’t start highlighted as far as I remember. Part of the problem may be that I am using two Apple machines that are SUPPOSED to mirror each other. I may have left a copy open on one, then tried to work on the other; however, Scrivener usually gets suitably grumpy if I do that, and I can’t remember that happening

Is the issue visible in Scrivener, in the editor?
